It's Time To Sow
by Belinda Blevins
Verse For Thought:
Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. Still other seed fell on good soil. Mark 4: 3-5,8 (NIV)
I have had so much fun sowing my garden this year. I love to see the seeds that I plant come up. Just about everyday I go out to see how much the seeds have grown. I didn’t get it plowed with a tractor this year. I just used the pick and hoe to turn the dirt before I planted. This is the trick, if you don’t have your dirt really loose and without lumps the seed just does not grow like it is suppose to. Yes its lumpy!
It reminds me of the stony grown that is mention in the scripture verse for thought. The seed that falls on shallow ground needs to be deeper so the sun comes out it won't scorch. The stony ground is too hard. This story I am sharing now is a daily reminder to sow into good ground on my journey. If I sow love , I will get love. If I sow peace, I get peace, etc.
I like to sing the song, This Little Light of Mine, I’m Going to Let it Shine. If I am in the mall and meet people, I realize that sometimes all they need is a smile. There are so many frowns. All that is needed in most cases is to turn the frown upside down. In the world today everyone seems to be in a hurry. Thorns, trials and troubles seem to cloud our way and literally choke up our garden..
The secret to my garden has been given to me to share with those every where I go.Words are seed. They can bring joy or cause pain. If the words take root you can be troubled. However when we hear lies, we must not let them stay on our mind. Refuse to accept them and they don’t take root. They only last a short time making them unfruitful. Hearing and believing the truth only brings good fruit producing a crop. Remember what we sow is what we reap.
Let's Pray:
Father God I am so glad that you sow into us your goodness, I ask that you help us to sow what it is pleasing to you. Father help us to sow into others as we meet each day on our journey. Father we only want to see your crop, and your fruit in Jesus name amen.
Take the Next Step:
Why not take inventory in your "garden of life" today? Are you allowing weeds of hurt, anger, disappointment or bitterness to stunt your spiritual growth. Think of your closest friend or loved one. Sow some unconditional love into their life today. Then offer a smile as a ray of hope to the first person you see and watch your own "garden" will grow.
